Kalote Animal Trust came into existence in November, 2017. Although the shelter officially became a trust only in Nov ’17, Sameer Vohra, the founder of the shelter has been rescuing animals since 2002.

In 2012, soon after Jism 2 released, Pooja Bhatt took off with her then-husband Manish (Munna) Makhija to Dubai for a much-needed break. While they were away, their oldest dog, Garbo, was bitten by a baby cobra at their farm in Kalote. The only vet around treated Garbo like he treated cattle and he almost died before an SOS call to their lawyer, Sridhar Gorthi, brought them a saviour in a stranger, Sameer Vohra, who not only saved their dog, but ended up becoming a good friend.

Kalote Animal Trust came into existence in November, 2017. Although the shelter officially became a trust only in Nov ’17, Sameer Vohra, the founder of the shelter has been rescuing animals since 2002. As a child, Sameer always loved being with animals and rescued injured dogs, birds and many other animals. In 2002, Sameer decided to settle in Lonavala with no idea of what destiny had in store. Appalled by the state of the animals in the area, Sameer began rescuing and rehabilitating them at his home.
